Oslo is the capital city in Norway, it was founded around 1,000 AD and was established by King Harald III in 1048. It has an area of 3,400 square miles as a city and a population of around 1.4 million people, in 2013.
Oslo is an innovative city and it has been undertaken care with the Urban Ecology Program (Bykologisk Programme) in order to created a sustainable city, by using frameworks developed under the European Union.
In 2003, Oslo was proudly rewarded the European Sustainable City Award, based on the modification of the plan and the implementation of actions in it and also with the online environmental assessment.
Following by that, the Oslo Municipality has been leading the sustainability initiative through plans and actions, "Oslo Sustainable City" and "Oslo, Environmental Status 2003 Web Report".
Oslo has already successfully been a sustainable city for 1,000 years and with the plans and actions put forward in the realization of goals to make it more sustainable for the next 1,000 years.
